Fortnite has a lot to offer in the base game, but sometimes, you want something new. Most titles on PC have the ability to install mods. Ways for the user to add their own content to the game, to enhance or personalize the experience. What about Fortnite? Is there a method for how to get mods on Fortnite?
Well, Fortnite can be modded, but you probably shouldn’t. Most live service games kind of rely on players all being on the same page. Mods would mess with that, as cosmetic mods would definitely mess with Epic’s Item Shop profits. So, mods aren’t the most supported in the game. This isn’t the Elder Scrolls where you can mod till your heart is content. If you need to know how to get mods on Fortnite though, what can you do and what are the dangers?
How to Get Mods on Fortnite
Fortnite Mods are available in pretty much the same places as any other game’s top mods. All the major mod listing sites have entries for Fortnite. Something you’ll notice though is that mods are focused on just a few areas. Minor changes to skins, and competitive advantages.
Essentially, minor Fortnite cheats are widespread as mods. Like adding a red dot site all the time. Things like this aren’t allowed by Epic. Even having them installed is going to cause you problems. Since so few players actually use mods in Fortnite, even installing them is a bit tougher.
There aren’t any simple one-click installers or anything. Some players have made some tutorials for using mods on Fortnite, like the one below for using custom textures. But as you can tell they’re a little in-depth for anyone just casually trying them out.
Should You Use Mods?
Something you’ve likely noticed is that there isn’t a simple method for how to get mods on Fortnite, that’s because it’s heavily discouraged. Lots of games make mods against the rules, but live service titles take it pretty seriously. Especially Fortnite. If you install mods, you’ll be lucky to get a game completed before you get banned. You lose your account, all your skins, progress, and since you installed third-party software that could be cheats, you’ll have little sympathy getting anything back. Not great if you think your Fortnite account is worth a lot.
Mods in FN aren’t a good idea. Whether they’re a fun way to spice things up for the player or a competitive advantage doesn’t really matter. In order to keep Fortnite fair for everyone, all mods are viewed the same way. It’s best just to stick to modding weapons at the weapon benches, rather than the game itself.
