Team Falcons have defeated Team Spirit in the grand finals of FISSURE Universe: Episode 3, securing victory in the last major tournament before The International 2024. Falcons took down spirit 3-0 in a rematch of the Upper Bracket Finals, ensuring yet another victory for the squad.

In all the team dropped just four games the entire tournament, losing a series to Team Spirit in the group stage, and two more losses to Tundra Esports and G2.iG in winning efforts.

In the finals, however, Falcons were undefeated. After a valiant stand by Team Spirit in game one, which pushed the game to 71 minutes, the Eastern European team seemed to crumble. Their 24-minute defeat in game two, in which Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu’s Medusa once again took over the game, seemed to be Spirit giving up and looking towards TI.

In game three, a resigned Team Spirit mustered a notable stand, with a stand-out performance from Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov on Slardar, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Falcons march. The Saudi-backed team secured a final victory over their rivals to mark yet another tournament victory.

The win adds another podium to one of the most successful teams in Dota 2, having won eight out of the 11 tournaments they’ve been invited to this year. However, Team Falcons will have to break a long-time curse in Dota 2 at The International 2024. Rare is the case that a team that has performed well all year has managed to secure the win on the biggest stage. One notable exception are Team Spirit, whose consistency led them to a second TI victory in 2023.

Next month, at TI, will Falcons buck the trend or end up like Gaimin Gladiators and Team Secret before them, missing out on The Aegis after months of victories?
