There’s a disparity between keyboard and mouse and controller players in Fortnite, which is why aim assist even exists. With the onset of crossplay and the fact that so many players play with and against those on totally different platforms, it’s more important than ever for things to even out. This has always been Epic Games’ best attempt to level the playing field a little bit, and they’ve tweaked it even further in the latest update.
Fortnite Aim Assist Gets Buff
Aim assist, found in the Fortnite settings, and in other games simply puts the crosshairs a little closer when aiming at something. It’s fairly difficult to aim with precision on a controller because the joysticks are imprecise. Perfect aim often requires much slighter movements than a joystick can usually do.
Thus, aim assist was born. When you aim close enough at a target, be it a moving enemy or something whatever game it is believes can be locked onto, there’s a slight adjustment to where you are actually looking. Now in Fortnite, it’s been tweaked.
According to leaker HYPEX, aim assist is much more human now. It’s still automated. However, it has been updated to mimic human reaction time. Players, especially those who are trained in Fortnite, can usually react quickly. Sometimes their controllers can’t.
This should make it a little easier to track moving targets, which is so vital in Chapter 5 Season 4. The movement in this season, thanks to certain items, is pretty difficult to keep up with. Players can boost around with the Ruver Styx buff, fly ahead with War Machine’s Hover Jet, and use other items. The update to aim assist should help alleviate some issues.
The goal for this update was to create fair play for all players on all platforms. Every console, so Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, was given this update. It’s hard to truly bridge the gap between console and keyboard and mouse gamers, but this is Epic’s latest attempt at doing so. Some of the best players are on keyboard and mouse, but there may be room to go to controller now.
