In a shocking change, Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite battle passes will no longer be exclusive. Every single season that has had a battle pass had skins that went away permanently after it ended. Even skins like Omega that “returned” only came back in a totally different way.

Now, that won’t be the case. Moving forward, battle passes will still be available for purchase but if you miss out, you can most likely get the skins down the road.

Battle Pass in Fortnite to Undergo Major Shift

The fact that Fortnite battle passes are no longer exclusive marks a huge change. For all 30 seasons, each pass was exclusive and marketed as such. Players needed to spend the 950 V-Bucks to get skins like Carbide, Ice King, Midas, Iron Man, The Mandalorian, Aquaman, Rick Sanchez, The Foundation, Indiana Jones, Peter Griffin, Oscar, Zeus, or T-60 Power Armor. If they didn’t, those skins would forever be locked. Moving forward, that won’t be the case.

Epic confirmed this when they accidentally brought the Paradigm back to the Item Shop. They revealed that this wasn’t intentional, but that they would be releasing a new variant. Leakers discovered that this was Epic’s plan for all battle pass skins moving forward. They will all eventually be available for purchase. However, it still behooves players to get the passes when they’re active.

For one thing, the skins won’t be brought back for at least a year-and-a-half. 18 months later, skins will be added to the shop. They will also cost more. Players can spend 950 V-Bucks to get eight or so skins in the season or 1,200-2,000 V-Bucks per skin in 18 months when they return. Furthermore, it’s unclear what all cosmetics will be brought back with them. They may or may not get all the items that were in the Fortnite battle pass.

The biggest thing to note here is that this is moving forward. Epic is not retroactively making battle pass skins available. Beginning with the Chapter 5 Season 4 battle pass, skins will no longer be exclusive. The Chapter 3 Season 1 battle pass, for example, will remain as such.
