There is supposed to be a major update to Fortnite physics at some point. This update was going to change how things interacted in the game, making it a little more realistic and adding a new wrinkle to the gameplay. It was supposed to have been coming out soon, but it has been officially delayed.
Fortnite Physics Update Pushed Back
According to leaker HYPEX, the physics update to Fortnite has officially been delayed until quarter one of 2025. That means it should arrive sometime between January and March.
It could of course keep getting delayed. This is set to be one of the most substantial and impactful changes to the gameplay to date, as soon in the Fortnite leak, so it’s going to take time. This is even bigger than when Epic introduced sliding, sprinting, and mantling in Chapter 3.
The update will have things in the game react correctly. For example, when there’s a plank angled over something, a player’s weight on one end will cause it to fall like a seesaw. Bricks that get broken up will fall and move around instead of just disappearing. It will sort of introduce the use of simple machines in Fortnite. The physics in the game has never been a problem, but Epic has highlighted that as a potential improvement area.
This would likely make the environment destructible, meaning that you can make an impact on the map itself. This isn’t guaranteed, but it could cause buildings to fall over once there’s not enough support at the bottom. The buildings currently break entirely once they’re disconnected from the ground, but physics would cause them to fall much sooner than that.
It’s unclear what else this will do for the game, as the leaked video is only 10 seconds long. Keep in mind that it was leaked, so the evidence seen in it could be inaccurate. This is not the only major change coming soon, as Epic has also reportedly tinkered with battle passes.
