Labrov to replace Mikyx on the 2025 G2 lineup
The report was first put out by Sheep Esports, who already previously reported that Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle was given permission to explore his options without a buyout. In just a few days’ time, G2 seems to have chosen their new support for the upcoming season.
Labros “Labrov” Papoutsaki has been playing for Team BDS ever since the start of the 2023 season, showing great signs of growth throughout the last two seasons. Alongside his teammate Yoon “Ice” Sang-hoon, Labrov looked like a strong bot lane duo in the LEC, making them an important core for the Swiss team in all competitions. This year, the team failed to make it to Worlds but was consistently in the top half of the standings, finishing 4th in the LEC Season Finals.
According to Sheep Esports, Labrov was a hot agent during the offseason, with several teams showing interest in the Greek player. Aside from G2, Team Heretics, SK Gaming, GiantX, and Rogue were all squads that considered the support player.
One more change coming in for G2?
Labrov will be joining G2’s lineup of Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik, Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, and Rasmus “Caps” Winther as the team is looking to take revenge for missing out on a top 8 finish for two consecutive years at Worlds.
In addition to the support role, G2 will likely make changes in the jungle as well, given that Martin “Yike” Sundelin was also given permission to explore options following the elimination. Among the various candidates available, one of the most anticipated candidates is Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan, Team BDS’ Academy jungler and one of the best-performing players in the ERLs.
Worlds is still underway but it looks like LEC teams are rushing to lock in their rosters. Expect more announcements to be made in the upcoming weeks.
