Gen.G vs WBG – who is the X factor?

Based on how dominant Gen.G looked in the first part of the season, no one expected them to head into Worlds as the LCK’s #2 seed, yet here we are. Out of the two teams, they could draw, however, they probably got the weaker team of the two, WBG.

That being said, WBG is known for being a highly volatile team with the potential to match the very best. And considering the match is a Bo1, anything can really happen. Let’s break down the two teams and see what we are expecting from both later today.

Match Breakdown

There isn’t much need for a presentation for a team like Gen.G. The lineup is stacked across the board, having signed the most individually stacked top side trio (Kiin, Canyon, and Chovy). Peyz continues to be a solid ADC and Lehends has been consistently among the best players in his role throughout the years.

Among the five players, I would likely want to see a signal coming from Peyz: while the guy hasn’t slacked, I think we will have to see him step up when the moments call as it will be indicative of his potential compared to other marksmen players.

For WBG, instead, I think their main opportunity will stem from Tarzan. The Korean jungler has occasional super performances and if there were a situation where WBG could beat Gen.G, it would be getting Canyon’s map presence shut down.

Overall, though, I don’t think WBG has a high chance of seeing that happening. All of the players would have to show up in great form on the day, which hasn’t really occurred ever since they made it to the LPL Finals.

Overall, I feel like T1 is at a slight advantage due to how they are able to capitalize on the enemy’s bad macro calls. In case of a TES victory, it will probably be thanks to better teamfights. Whoever wins, though, will definitely get a good headstart for the rest of the Swiss stage.
