MDK to import Jojopyun from the LCS

According to a report by Sheep Esports, Jojopyun will be joining the MDK squad and leaving the LCS after a disappointing year at Cloud9. The 20-year-old Canadian mid lane wasn’t able to carry the team to a Worlds qualification, finishing fourth in the LCS Championship after losing to 100 Thieves.

Jojopyun is set to replace Bartłomiej “Fresskowy” Przewoźnik on the lineup, following the team’s poor run at Worlds 2024, which saw the team go 0-3 in the Swiss stage.

MDK had plenty of options

Sheep Esports also revealed that there were plenty of options to be considered in the mid lane. Korean player and Dplus Kia Challengers mid laner Kang “Saint” Sung-in was the second option MDK considered, with Šimon “OMON” Řiháček and Kamil “Kamiloo” Haudegond also being among the choices available. OMON is an ERL player who recently won the LFL Div 2 on Ici Japon Corp. Esport while Kamiloo played for Izi Dream, another team from the French second division.

Jojopyun’s career in the LCS

Ultimately, MDK decided to stick with the North American talent, who was previously a Fortnite pro before signing with the Evil Geniuses Academy team back in 2020. Since then, Jojopyun made a name for himself in the LCS by slowly developing his potential and in 2022, he was promoted to EG’s main team, taking the LCS Spring Championship in his first split.

While he wasn’t able to win other championships since then, the player was often regarded as the best non-import mid laner in the LCS. Now, however, he will be the one being imported to the LEC, as he will be joining the MDK squad.
