New HUD coming for League of Legends esports

The new head-up display (HUD) will have modernized looks and will ‘lay the foundation for future innovations’. According to the announcement by Riot, the new features will ‘push the boundaries of game augmentation’ and improve the general experience both for those familiar with League of Legends esports and those new to the MOBA title. Among the features added, there will be a new vertical scoreboard as well as widgets that can keep track of in-game stats, rotating between various information.

The new HUD will be first implemented at the First Stand tournament, the new international tournament featuring the Fearless Draft mode. Featuring only the top team from each of the five major regions, it will take place from March 10th to 16th at LoL Park in Seoul, South Korea, the studio currently used by the LCK for their domestic tournaments.

On top of the new HUD, First Stand will also include exclusive drops that can be earned by watching the matches through the official LoL Esports website.

By logging in with your own Riot ID, drops will be given to viewers whenever a Baron steal or Pentakill occurs during any given match. Additionally, each of these two events will allow viewers to earn an Esports Capsule and any series that goes to Silver Scrapes (five games). In the Grand Final on March 16th, live viewers will also be able to earn a First Stand Brand Emote.

For physical goods, Riot also revamped its Merch collection with the new First Stand branding. The merchandise includes a t-shirt, jersey, jumper, and varsity jacket. In particular, the varsity jackets are going to be individually numbered, meaning they will be the rarest items. The merch will be available at the LoL Park in Seoul, with the online shop being available for a limited amount of time starting on March 4th.
