PUBG Mobile vs New State Mobile Graphics Comparison

If we start out by comparing the graphics of PUBG Mobile and New State Mobile, apparently most of us will agree that New State Mobile has a clear edge over PUBG Mobile, and it’s obvious. After all, PUBG Mobile was launched in 2018 and offers accessible graphics optimized for a broad range of devices including mid-range and budget smartphones.

While the game’s visuals have improved over time thanks to time-to-time updates, PUBG Mobile maintains a relatively simple graphical style with basic textures and lighting effects.

New State Mobile, on the other hand, which was released in late 2021, takes advantage of newer technology to offer a more visually appealing experience. You will find out that its environments are more detailed, and it has clear reflections.

Krafton has ensured to provide a realistic experience that matches kind of PC version vibe. However, this comes with a condition, which is to own a high-end device.

While New State offers more detailed textures, mobile gamers tend to favor simple and clean graphics over ultra-realistic visuals, which can clutter the screen and make it harder to spot enemies. This preference has driven many fans to choose PUBG Mobile over New State.

Maps and Control

The difference between the Maps of these two games is the realistic and futuristic approach.

In New State mobile, the environments are more stylized, reflecting its setting in 2051. The dense layout of the map promotes faster-paced action and more frequent encounters.

PUBG Mobile maps, on the other hand, have layouts designed to encourage the exploration of hotspots for loot, which results in slower-paced gameplay. The game has closed the gap, however, with its themed modes that come with new points of interests on the classic map, offering more loot and intense gameplay.

Controls are more or less the same as both of them, offering highly customizable control layout. There’s no notable difference to highlight in this front.

Gameplay Difference

While both New State Mobile and PUBG Mobile follow the same battle royale framework, their gameplay experiences differ a lot. For instance, New State Mobile is set in 2051 which is why it has a futuristic twist. It comes with more advanced vehicles and weapons with dynamic, and often larger than life, customization options.

In contrast, PUBG Mobile maintains a traditional military aesthetic with a range of weapons and vehicles that exist or have been used in real life.

Other standout features of New State Mobile are new mechanics like modern drones, deployable shields, and combat rolls. These features offer players more ways to approach combat. New State Mobile also added a brand-new mode with abilities, akin to hero shooters like Apex Legends that offered the game some traction due to the lack of good hero shooters in the market.

PUBG Mobile, on the other hand, is well-polished and sticks to more conventional mechanics. However, players always have something new to look forward to next season with constant push of in-game content.

Esports: PUBG Mobile vs New State

Now, this is where New State Mobile has completely tanked against PUBG Mobile. While some may argue that New State Mobile has not yet had the time to establish a robust competitive scene, it’s important to remember that PUBG Mobile, too, was launched in 2018 and had gathered a larger fanbase within just a year, especially with the Club Open (PMCO) 2018 in Berlin. Gradually, more regions got included in the structure making it the one of the biggest mobile esports titles.

New State Mobile has not yet organized events of similar scale or frequency. For example, the last New State league that took place was in December 2023 which also had poor audience stats. Whereas the recently concluded PMWI 2024 had a $3 million prize pool where Alpha 7 Esports won $487,0001. You can read more about their epic journey from here.

PMGC 2024 is also lined up in November this year after regional qualifications is over which come with their own prize pools. Right now, the PUBG Mobile esports circuit is supporting teams at every step to the top. So, when put in comparison, it’s safe to say that its already too late for New State Mobile to establish itself as an esports title.

Is New State Mobile lagging behind PUBG Mobile?

Unfortunately, the answer is yes, and much of the blame can be attributed to frequent bugs and the infiltration of cheaters. From the start, it was evident that the game was poorly optimized. Given that New State Mobile targeted a smaller fanbase of players with higher-end devices, presenting an under-optimized product significantly impacted its growth.

But, while it’s easy to blame every game for its optimization issues, the bigger reason that played behind New State’s poor retention was the unnecessity of the game itself. Not only did the game fail to segregate itself enough from PUBG Mobile as a standalone title, but there also wasn’t much incentive for players to grind or spend money on another game which offers the same flavors with just a futuristic tweak.

Moreover, after Krafton pulled the plug on its creator program, we are already observing that the itineraries of popular streamers hardly include New State Mobile these days. This lack of visibility in the streaming community is further hindering its engagement.
