From 16, down to 8, to 4 down to 2 but now at the very end, Team BDS have come out on top as your R6 EWC 2024 winners.
Road to gold at R6 EWC 2024
Of the 16 play-in teams, only 1 was going to be able to walk away with a trophy and a share of the Esports World Cup prize pool. Team BDS came in through Group A and were joined by Team Liquid, Furia, Bleed, W7M Esports, Spacestation Gaming, FaZe Clan, and DarkZero.
In the cut throat best of 1, double elimination groups they would go through Bleed and Furia to qualify through the winner’s side. Maintaining their top seed position.
They may not have dropped a map in the group stages., but a single elimination top cut would make sure that one misstep would be their last.
Moving into best of 3 territory, they were able to take a close match over Bleed to reach the Semifinals. The final stage of Best of 3 would see them go to a final map and push through to Best of 5. Where fellow finalists W7M Esports would meet them.
W7M, the first team to make it to finals were eagerly awaiting their runback. As BDS sent them to the lower bracket in groups.
With many of these teams being favorites in their own regions, and defending Major champions c9 | beastcoast nowhere to be seen, it was all to play for for the teams that made the trip abroad. This left the top spot open for BDS, who placed second at the Manchester Major in a devastating 5 game series.
Groups was no fluke
While W7M undeniably went on a heater after being sent to lower bracket, they ultimately would fall short of the eventual winners.
The favorites coming in were the favorites for a reason. In 3-0 fashion Team BDS cleaned up the run back for the Esports World Cup win.
