WBG vs BLG: Worlds 2024 Semifinals Preview
History is repeating itself: almost one year after last year’s Worlds matchup, BLG and WBG meet again in the semifinals. Last time out, WBG came out victorious following an incredible 5-game series, making one of the biggest upsets in that tournament.
Things haven’t changed much since then: WBG made it through as the #4 seed while BLG came into Worlds as the main LPL team to contend for the title. After the Swiss stage and quarterfinals, however, things are not looking as certain as expected. Let’s see why and what are the odds for the two teams to take the series.
WBG vs BLG Series Breakdown & Expectations
Before we make a prediction on the series, it’s time to quickly analyze the two teams and what might be the determining factors for the outcome.
On one hand, we have WBG who has shown great draft adaptability throughout the elimination series in the Swiss stage as well as the quarterfinal match against LNG. I believe coach Daeny to be the big mastermind behind it as he has repeatedly come out with several solutions to lead to victory. It happened last year and it’s happening once again this time.
While his players do not have the best synergy with the Worlds meta, Daeny has been adapting their drafts around his players’ strengths and finding a good balance. On paper, WBG shouldn’t be as strong as BLG so if we were to see a super close series, I’m pretty sure it would be thanks to Daeny and his magic.
BLG, on the other hand, were able to defeat HLE at their best game, teamfighting. The LPL #1 seed not only showed great ability in directly confronting the LCK team but they were also able to adapt themselves as the series went on, pulling out Xun’s Kindred in the decisive Game 4. If the team struggled with the meta initially, they have been finding their groove the more games they have played.
Regarding the players, all players seem to be in good form: Bin dominated Doran in the solo lane and Elk and Knight have been solid as always. That said, my focus for the series will be on the supports: we saw how T1 was able to punish TES with Keria roaming and consistently applying pressure on the map.
If you’re able to build up leads early on, teams won’t have to rely on teamfights as much to swing the games in their favor. Whoever can do that better between Crisp and ON will give their team a big advantage.

Our Predictions
Overall, expect the matches to be bloody. The average kill count on the quarterfinal matches played by LPL teams has gone over 25+ per game and we should have similar numbers, especially if the drafts were to be skirmish heavy. Game duration has also been quite long: make sure to check the drafts but you should have an easy time nailing those as well.
To that end we have the following markets:
Total Kills (Over 26.5+) at 1.61 @ GG.BET
Game Duration (Over 33.5 minutes) at 1.80 @ Thunderpick
For the prediction on the series, I would say BLG is slightly favored but both teams have enough potential to take the victory. We saw how the gap isn’t that big and a lot comes down to how players show up on the day. Based on the analysis, though, BLG should be expected to take the series, likely with a 3-1 or 3-2 score, as mentioned in our pick’ems.
