Since the launch of VALORANT Esports, one of the most exciting regions to watch has been VCT Pacific. This could be due to the high-octane playstyle that teams like Paper Rex and DRX have. On the other hand, teams like Gen G and Talon Esports play with the ideology of controlled chaos. On July 21, the VCT Pacific Stage Two Grand Finals took place, with Gen G becoming the new VCT Pacific champions. Let’s deeply dive into how Gen G spectacularly won it all.
Gen G are the new VCT Pacific Champions
VCT Pacific Stage Two Grand Finals occurred at the COEX Atrium & SK Olympic Handball Stadium in Seoul, Korea. The Grand Finals took place between Gen G and DRX. Before the match began, XG treated fans of VCT Pacific to a live performance. This is the same girl band that sang the theme song “Undefeated” for VCT Pacific.
Coming into the finals, Gen G was the favorite to win the VCT Pacific. A significant reason for this was their incredible performance during the VCT Pacific Stage Two and their victory at the VCT Masters Shanghai. Until this event, Gen G has been one of the most consistent teams in the world this season. On the other hand, DRX was the clear underdog. It’s a new roster filled with rookies like Flashback climbing up the ranks. DRX is the only team that has participated in both Grand Finals of VCT Pacific. Last year, they lost to Paper Rex due to an incredible reverse sweep.
What were some of the highlights from this Grand Finale?
The first map was played on Haven. This was the map pick of Gen G, but they needed to start strong. Instead, DRX won the first nine rounds in a row and won the map with a score of 13-6. Map 2 was played on the map of Bind. This map was a close affair as the game went overtime with a scoreline of 18-16, with Gen G winning.
Lotus was map three, and it was another close affair. Gen G took the map to overtime but secured the game with a score of 14-12. Finally, in Map 4 on Icebox, Gen G won dominatingly. A picture-perfect finish by t3xture from Gen G getting the 3K using the Bladestorm. This season, Gen G has reached the Grand Final of each tournament in which they have participated. Only time will tell if they continue this streak into VALORANT Champions 2024.
