As of Sunday, May 3rd, Victor “Punk” Woodley got in second at Evo Japan. However, the Street Fighter 6 pro may have already won before that: he took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend and she said yes.

On Saturday night, Punk posted a short clip of him getting on one knee and asking his girlfriend to marry him. She said yes and the two embraced each other. It was a simple proposal with very few onlookers, and some even joked that it felt as exciting as proposing to her while sitting on the couch at home.

However, not everyone needs a massive proposal with cute clothing and onlookers to be happy. Punk tweeted: “Finally decided to propose to my girlfriend. Hopefully, it will bring good luck in my matches. Today may be the happiest moment of my life.”

All of the biggest fighting game pros congratulated him in the replies, including Dominique “SonicFox” McLean and Justin Wong.

Despite some connection issues, it seems to have been a good weekend for Punk. He shared many pics of himself posing with fans, and Japanese attendees said Punk was kind to them even though they couldn’t speak English. He even said “thank you” in Japanese.

He then had a very good showing in the bracket itself. His near-perfect run saw him beat top talent from all around the world. He was stopped short in the Grand Final, with Eisuke Yamaguchi beating him 3-1.

But Punk was in a great mood. He tweeted: “I still got the perfect prize: fiancé and Esports World Cup qualification!”

As always, there was a bit of drama. Some Japanese fans felt Punk was “disrespectful” during the Grand Finals. However, some banter and rivalries are part of the FGC culture. The Japanese FGC takes things very seriously. Fans noted that this is just Punk’s personality and many love watching his antics on stage.
