The KPL Dream Team, an all-star roster from China’s King Pro League (KPL), the pinnacle tournament series for Honor of Kings esports in China, has continued the country’s dominance in Honor of Kings esports. They have (unsurprisingly) won the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason 2024.
The 2024 Invitational Midseason happened at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Twelve teams worldwide competed in the event from Aug. 1 to 4 for a share of the $3 million prize pool.
KPL Dream Team becomes champions without dropping a single game in the Honor of Kings Midseason 2024
China is miles away in terms of mechanical skills compared with international teams in the Honor of Kings esports ecosystem – and for good reason too. The game was released back in 2015, with the world getting a globalized version called Arena of Valor.
However, with Arena of Valor failing to captivate audiences, Level Infinite decided to bring Honor of Kings globally, with its launch happening earlier in 2024 only. As a result, China has a much more evolved esports scene for the game – making it dominate international tournaments.
The KPL Dream Team was selected based on voting from fans and players in China. Their domination in the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason was evident from the group stages itself, as they were able to win all of their matches – quite comfortably.
This momentum was carried into the Playoffs stage as well, where they were able to take down Impunity, AG Global, and LGD Gaming Malaysia. Out of all the matches the team played in, only one touched the 15-minute mark – an indication of how dominant the team was.
The top two teams from the Midseason Cup are supposed to qualify for the Honor of Kings Championship 2024. However, with the KPL Dream Team coming in first, it’s unclear who will get the second slot as there are two teams in the third and fourth spot, namely Keyd Stars and All Gamers Global.
