Let’s look at the new format of the upcoming MLBB M6 World Championship.
What is the new format of the MLBB M6 Championship 2024?
The MLBB M6 Championship 2024 will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Nov. 21 to Dec. 15. The tournament will comprise the top 23 teams worldwide from the various regional leagues from the MLBB Esports Ecosystem. The prize pool will increase this year from $900,000 to $1,000,000. The tournament will be divided into 3 phases:
Wild Card Stage
Swiss Stage
Knockout Stage
Let us look at the format for each MLBB M6 Championship 2024 stage.
The Wild Card Stage
The first phase of the tournament is the Wild Card Stage. Within this, there will be eight teams that will be split into two groups.
The teams will compete in a single round-robin format with each match being a B03.
The top team from each group will then advance to the second phase of the Wild Card Stage. The two teams will face off in a best-of-5 series in the second phase.
The winner of this match will qualify for the M6 Swiss Stage.
The Swiss Stage
The second phase of the tournament is the newly introduced and exciting Swiss Stage. In this phase, the top 16 teams will face off against each other.
Similar to other esports titles that incorporate the Swiss stage format, teams will need to win three matches to qualify for the next phase of the event.
The first two matches of each team will be a B01 series. Following this, the teams that have won 2 games each will play decider matches, which will be a B03 series.
Teams that win this series will qualify for the tournament’s knockout stage. Teams that lose their first B03 will play another B03 match to see which teams qualify further.
By the end of the Swiss Stage, the top 8 teams will qualify for the knockout stage. The remaining eight teams, on the other hand, will be eliminated from the tournament.
The Knockout Stage
The Final stage of the MLBB M6 Championship 2024 is the knockout stage. Within this, the top 8 teams will play in a double bracket format to see which team qualifies for the Grand finals.
Each team’s first match within this phase will be a B03. Following this, all the remaining matches will be a B05, with the Grand finals being a B07.
Benefits of the new Swiss Stage format in the MLBB M6 World Championship
It’s great to see MOONTON implementing new changes to the M6 World Championship, making it more exciting for fans. This time, the Swiss Stage will ensure that there is no luck-based group draw. As a result, there won’t be any ‘group-of-death,’ ensuring all teams have an even chance to qualify for the Playoffs.
Additionally, this format will also ensure that some fan favorite teams face off earlier in the tournament, bringing in more viewership and excitement to the tournament.
